At its core, it is also a meditation on the dangers of deadly tourism in volcanic and mountainous landscapes. Inspired by a tragic case from last summer, when a traveler lost her life during a volcano trek, the painting reflects on how awe and peril often coexist in nature’s most dramatic terrains.
